Echofon for Twitter App Reviews

Great App! Though, it needs some update love!

Echofon has been my favorite Twitter app since I have been using Twitter. Sadly, they just have not been releasing updates as often as Id wish. Echofon is lagging behind on some features such as @username tagging autocompletion and such. Please update more :D

Crashes

Since Ive downloaded the update, the app has crashed on me & stalled my computer numerous times within the past 24hours. Need an update to this! It does not give me a crash log so I am unable to submit one. Other than that before this version was released this app was great. Hopefully a resolution can be found.

Not worth the $10

Echofon continues to endear itself with in-timeline notifications of retweets, new followers and favorites. However, no Retina Display support and a lack of notification center support make this an app to avoid buying if you have a Retina Macbook Pro and/or Mountain Lion. There are better alternatives on the market at the moment. Tweeting a currently playing iTunes song and tweeting a link to an open page in Safari also does not work. The UI is also tired and has not been updated to correlate with the new twitter system, in which there is the Timeline, Connect and Discover tabs, but many apps have stuck to the original design metaphors, so make of this what you will. Ultimately, what breaks this deal for me is the lack of Retina display support. For a paid app - and $10 is quite a lot to ask for a Twitter app that brings no considerable unique features to the table - this is very disappointing.

Awful

Not worth the price. Why did I pay for an app that shows ads I cant get rid of? I with I could return it and get my money back.

Just What Youd Expect

Ive been using the iPhone app forever after going through what felt like every twitter app out there. At first, their updates werent too trustworthy, but now theyre rock solid. Using the same app on phone/mac means I dont ever read a tweet twice. Using the Mac app instead of the browser means I can manage multiple accounts easily. That for me was the "purchase compelling event". I got tired of posting on the wrong account. I tried quite a few free mac apps before purchasing. None had the simplicity of use that I had grown used to on the iPhone. You wont go wrong with Echofon!

The best!

This is a great twitter app just as the iphone and iPad app!

Now it supports API 1.1 - a great relief

I am thrilled to see an updated version of Echofon, the best native twitter client for Mac, supporting the API 1.1. Though it isnt clear if they decided not to discontinue Echofon for mac yet, I could use this application in the foreseeable future by this update. I really hope that they didnt give up this gem.

My favorite Twitter client

Other Twitter clients are so gimmicky… they have fancy animations and yet everything I want to do takes twice the number of clicks that it takes in Echofon. Yay Echofon! Yay updated for the new API! Its still simple & clean. You got my $10.

Drawer constantly popping out for no reason.

The new Tweet Detail View feature has a nasty side effect for me. The feature is supposed to activate when you click in Echofons window on a tweet. For me, the mere arrival of a new tweet makes the drawer fly out - without any clicking at all. Its like your car door constantly flying open when youre driving down the road. Its annoying enough to knock off a few stars down to 2-stars. Id give 5-stars otherwise. Thankfully Ive been able to go back to the 5-star 1.7.

Droplr & Pocket

*Droplr* support for photograph, video and url shortening *Pocket* support for saving links its nice the developer updated for Twitters 1.1 api, but Twitpic and bit.ly still?

Appears to leak memory

I love Echofon, but this version appears to leak memory when viewing images. Each time I view an image, Echofon grabs memory and wont let go. After a few days, its using 1 GB and I have to relaunch to get it back. But other than that, which Im sure will be fixed soon, its my favorite Twitter client!

Losing Functionality

I’ve always loved Echofon, but the Mac App is lagging behind the iOS app. I for one would like it to automatically fill in twitter @ handles because i can’t memorize everybody’s handle. It already does this on the iPhone/iPad i don’t know why it doesn’t do it on the desktop app? The official Twitter App is getting better and better...

Nice drawer fix!

Thank you so much for disabling the one-click drawer action! It’s now back to being my main Twitter client app!

Sync doesn’t work

I bought this app on both Mac and iOS because of the claimed desktop-iOS and iOS-iOS sync features. Neither works.

Decent but a big inconvenience

My biggest issue with Echofon is that it doesn’t play GIFs

Nice UI but leaks memory

I like echofon’s UI and at least for my normal tweeting workflow works great. There are cases where I need to open tweets in the browser to get at certain things but this is rare and is easy to do. Unfortunately this program leaks memory like crazy. Like 1.5GB crazy. Fortunately it does it slow enough you can just occasionally restart it but is still silly. Certantly better than Twitter’s own client which seems like someone’s toy twitter client they wrote over the weekend.

Sync does not work

Sync for Echofon has not worked in a very long time reading the same tweet twice is a norm. That’s my biggest issue with Echofon since I also have it for my iPhone and iPad. Hopefully this feature is fixed for all platforms. Update 08/20/15: Does not support the new quote RT or new DM format.
